Eligibility for Entry in BRVGS

Eligible students must be enrolled in (or intending to enroll in) a participating public school division in order to participate in the BRVGS program. Students should apply during their 8th grade year for entrance in the 9th grade.

School divisions may also allow applications for entrance in the 10th grade, provided all prerequisites have been met by the student and there is space available. Students entering in 10th are highly recommended to have taken Biology prior to 10th grade.

Students admitted to the BRVGS must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all classes, with no grades below C- for continued participation as a student in good standing in the program.

Selection

The selection process is highly competitive. In most cases, there are eighteen (18) available slots per school division for entering 9th graders. Student selection is based on six admission criteria with established standards for each, as follows:

Selection Criteria

  1. Ability Measure

  2. Achievement Measure

  3. Grades (GPA past 2 years)

  4. Recommendations (3)

  5. Performance Task (writing prompt)

  6. Student Interview
